THE KUMETRIX ADVANTAGE
|
PAINLESS ONE-STEP BLOOD TESTINGIn hospitals and birthing centers throughout the country, newborn babies are being subjected to painful, barbaric, and potentially dangerous procedure known as the neonatal heelstick. Many nurses and hospital technicians feel that an improvement is urgently required. The Kumetrix hand-held instrument will provide babies and their caregivers the technology required to end the painful heelstick procedure. Our core technology is commercializable in many medical markets both in the US and worldwide, including neonatal, emergency room and acute point-of-care testing, patient self-testing, and military applications. The same technology used in the neonatal blood testing market will be expanded to a wide variety of applications in point-of-care testing, and into consumer self-testing. Most available instruments for blood testing, such as home glucose testing, require the user to obtain a blood sample from the finger by puncturing the skin with a metal lancet, and then transfer the sample to a test strip. Performing this procedure on the finger is quite painful, and long-term use of this "finger stick" can produce calluses and loss of sensation in the fingers. Transferring the sample to a test strip can be messy, time-consuming, and difficult. The Kumetrix microsampling and assay system combined with the silicon microneedle allows a smaller blood sample to be taken allowing testing to be done on the arm or other less painful sites, and conserving a neonate's limited blood supply. Integrating the microneedle and blood assay chemistry into a single disposable silicon microchip permits quick, one-step use. |
